Unfortunately, it's not unlikely that the trauma to the top deck will also strain the roof sticks where they pass through the lower saloon and window pans. The RTs had jig-built bodies, which could be repaired very easily. Modern, chassis built or monocoque bodies, although very strong, would become strained and distorted. Considering that RTs and RMs can be used for 40 years, I’d favour those crew-buses over the horrible modern rear-engined contraptions. I have driven both types. The modern ones have very comfortable driving positions, but no feel. I like sitting next to a 9.6 litre engine…

Also, make it low floor up and down and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more so there will be more space for the wheelchair users. A Metrobus (Crawley) bus crashed into a bridge in Haywards Heath in April 2021. Apparently, the bus was on a diversion route, and the driver drove into the bridge.... which _was not_ part of the diversion route (as, diversion routes are actually tested first. They're not like "OK this road is closed, so er.... Google Maps says this road goes here"). I bet the driver was like "Why are they making us go this way? This way is much quicker. I go down here every day with my car. These diversions are just stup-- .... Oh right, this is a bus. Frick!

Good old buses

As a kid I upset some bus conductor by only having a ten shilling note for 1d fare, he gave me all the change in pennies and halfpenny’s. It was before D day in 71, probably 70.
